Dr. Cohan Reunites, Brings His Experience to St. Luke’s Gastroenterology Associates
Charles Cohan, DO, has joined St. Luke’s Gastroenterology Associates in Monroe County, which adds a familiar face to an already experienced practice.
Formerly an independent physician, Dr. Cohan joins former colleagues Stephen Strohlein, MD, and Robert Malcolm, MD, in the practice. The three have been fixtures in the local medical community for decades.
“Between Dr. Strohlein, Dr. Malcolm, and I, we collectively represent over 50 years of dedicated gastroenterology service to Monroe County,” says Dr. Cohan, a graduate of the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine/Midwestern University.
He stresses that both Dr. Malcolm and Dr. Strohlein were strong influences in his decision to join St. Luke’s Physician Group (SLPG). Dr. Cohan was attracted to “the attention, honesty and integrity that SLPG promises to its physicians” and to its use of the Epic medical records system.
“I am dedicated to patient welfare, safety and education, and to making my patients healthier,” he says. “My primary focus is and always has been education. I try to communicate with my patients through diagrams and an understanding of anatomy and physiology using a language that all of my patients can understand.”
Pamela Hartnett, Director, Medical Specialties, SLPG, says there has been noticeable growth in the demand for gastroenterology services in the Monroe County region.
“Patients are increasingly seeking preventive care and screenings in a timely manner because it’s easier to access the care, when it’s convenient for them, without needing to drive 45 minutes,” Hartnett notes. “Our providers treat myriad conditions, from constipation to diarrhea and everything in between, and issues related to the liver and pancreas.”
Hartnett says that, with SLUHN’s support, St. Luke’s Gastroenterology Associates is well positioned to meet the needs of GI patients in Monroe County.
“Together, Dr. Strohlein, Dr. Cohan and Dr. Malcolm have lived here, worked here and cared for so many families in the Monroe region,” she explains. “They are well known, they are trusted, and they now have access to more resources and technology than ever before. We are very excited to have Dr. Cohan and his team practicing medicine at St. Luke’s.”
Dr. Cohan is practicing with St. Luke’s Gastroenterology Associates at the St. Luke’s Monroe Campus. The office is located at 3565 Route 611, Suite 300, in Bartonsville. He sees patients five days per week, performing procedures every weekday between 8 am and 5 pm. Dr. Cohan also performs endoscopic procedures every other Saturday morning.
