Dr. Alaa-Eldin Mira is Appointed Section Chief for Geriatrics
I am pleased to announce Dr. Mira as Section Chief for Geriatrics.
Dr. Mira brings over 30 years of experience in the areas of surgery, infectious disease and geriatrics. He is a graduate of Al-Azhar University Medical School in Cairo, Egypt and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Overlook Hospital in Summit, NJ and Infectious Disease at East Tennessee State University. Dr. Mira is board certified in Geriatric and Internal Medicine. Prior to moving to the Lehigh Valley from Michigan, Dr. Mira was the Chief of the Geriatric Department and Service Line Medical Director for Geriatrics for the Oakwood Physicians Practices. For the past 6 years he has also been the Associate Director for the Geriatric Fellowship program at Oakwood Hospital and Medical Center in Dearborn, Michigan. Dr. Mira also served as the Medical Director for Heartland Health Care Center Skilled Nursing Facilities.
In addition to his vast geriatric experience, Dr. Mira has also been an attending physician and consultant in infectious disease and surgery.
Dr. Mira is responsible for the clinical and administrative oversight for Senior Care Associates. Along with Dr. Mira, the group provides inpatient consultation and at the Center for Positive Aging, (St Luke’s North) offers outpatient assessment and consultation for patients and caregivers. Dr. Mira is working closely with Anne Grogan, Network Director for Senior Care, on various senior adult related projects at the Bethlehem Campus. He is assisting the geriatricians working in the long term care areas to utilize evidence-based standards of practice for CHF, COPD, Delirium prevention, etc. He is also working with the post acute committee for the Bundled payment initiative.
