Orwigsburg Family Doctor Joining St. Luke’s Orwigsburg Primary Care
A board-certified family doctor, Robert Harkins, MD, has joined St. Luke’s Orwigsburg Primary Care. He will see children, adults and seniors at the practice located at 209 East Market Street in Orwigsburg.
As part of St. Luke’s, Dr. Harkins’ patients will have access to many important and needed services throughout St. Luke’s University Health Network including obstetrics and gynecology, emergency care, heart and vascular services, home health and hospice, neuroscience, cancer care, orthopedics, sports medicine, physical therapy and weight loss. Later this year, the new 80-bed, acute-care Geisinger St. Luke’s Hospital will open in Orwigsburg.
Dr. Harkins believes it’s his role to “not only serve as your primary care doctor, but also as a guide to help you understand and deal with both your physical health and the health care system.” As a physician, he said, “I practice evidence-based medicine and I believe it is very important for patients to be able to understand why particular medications or treatments are being recommended or prescribed. I always spend time encouraging my patients to ask questions, and to do whatever they can to help themselves.”
Dr. Harkins has been practicing family medicine in Orwigsburg since 1987. He grew up in Coatesville, Pennsylvania, and graduated from St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia. He received his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine and completed his residency at Reading Hospital.

Outside of work, Dr. Harkins enjoys spending time with his wife and three (grown) children, playing tennis, traveling and exploring new places.
