Pediatric Gastroenterologist Dr. Leo Heitlinger Now Seeing Patients at St. Luke’s West End Medical Center
Children are not just adults in smaller shapes and sizes. Their bodies are growing and they have unique medical needs. Kids express health and wellness concerns differently than adults, and they cannot usually answer adult medical questions. But their health issues, such as lactose intolerance, food allergies, acid reflux and other digestive system, liver or nutritional problems, are serious. They often require a specialist experienced in both gastroenterology as well as in treating children.
At St. Luke’s West End Medical Center, Leo Heitlinger, MD, a board-certified pediatric gastroenterologist, hepatologist and nutritionist, is now seeing patients on a regular basis. He provides care for conditions of the digestive system, including abdominal pain, food allergies, bowel issues, Celiac disease, poor weight gain, feeding disorders and failure to thrive. Dr. Heitlinger also takes care of kids with Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis, Eosinophilic Esophagitis as well as Hepatitis C. He first began seeing patients in Allentown in January.
“St. Luke’s is improving this important area of care in the West End, which has really not had this available before,” says Dr. Heitlinger. “Parents should know that getting access to treatment here is easy. We have experienced people, a convenient location and all the services, like labs, x-rays and diagnostic tests, right here in one place.”
Dr. Heitlinger notes that, in addition to seeing local patients, others have travelled from Collegeville, Pennsburg and Pottsville seeking second opinions. “We provide a high level of care, very quick access and good outcomes at a site that’s easy to get to. St. Luke’s West End offers an alternative to seeing a pediatric specialist in Philadelphia or another health system that can be frustrating to reach and complicated to navigate, only to spend little time with the actual physician. Here, you’ll have an appointment with a pediatric gastroenterologist who has personal interest in you and your child.”
Dr. Heitlinger continues to see patients at St. Luke’s Pediatrics Gastroenterology in Bethlehem. To make an appointment or a referral at either location, please call (484) 526-7575.
